Canoeing is a fun, rewarding, and health pastime outside experience for anyone old or young. The question is where are examples of the top spots to Canoe?
When searching for a location there are a few concerns that need to be addressed. The first of which will be to do a radical self research of you own personal talent level. Are you someone that enjoys tranquil conditions without much challenge or exertion, or are you someone that like the thrill of the falls and danger of uncharted territory?
Many people fall between so it is vital to know you own preferences when looking to discover a location. Another thing to be considered you wish to look at is the type of vessel you prefer. You have conventional fiber glass Canoes and there are inflatable Kayaks. Both have their benefits and flaws, but I often prefer inflatable on my relaxation trips and the conventional material for the more advance routes.
Eventually are you going by yourself or with a friend? There are two paths to address this. You can take individual Canoes, take turns Canoeing, or bring a tandem Canoe.
With that noted if you are a seasoned Kayaker and wish to have a beautiful environment and challenging waters even with rocks consider trying the Westwater Ravine in Colorado near Grand Junction and not to far from Salt Lake City.
For moderate to advanced users head over to the east coast to Virginia where you will find Russell Fork Stream. This one is brim-full of twists and turns and even an occasional whirlpool. Still not advised for the noob but great for for those with some experience.
For some less complicated terrain go to Wisconsin’s Flambeau River in the higher areas of the brook. This is also a great place if you enjoy both slow and fast. The upper area is slower where later in the course it much more of a serious challenge.
